Both World Series teams from last year — the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians — have returned. Cleveland earned the best record in the American League, buoyed by a historic 22-game winning streak that began in late August.

The Los Angeles Dodgers has the home-field advantage for the entire playoffs with MLB’s best regular season record of 104 wins and 58 losses. It was the franchise’s best season since moving from Brooklyn to Los Angeles in 1958.

Also returning to the playoffs are the A.L. East division winners, the Boston Red Sox where they will play the A.L. West division winner Houston Astros, the team “Sports Illustrated” magazine in 2014 predicted would win the 2017 World Series.

Three teams with losing records in 2016 reached the Wild Card game in 2017: the Minnesota Twins, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies.

And finally, the New York Yankees. In a year that was supposed to be for rebuilding, their success arrived ahead of schedule, on the play of likely American League Rookie of the Year winner Aaron Judge — the 2017 Home Run Derby champion and the new rookie record holder of 52 home runs in a season, new ace pitcher Luis Severino, power-hitting catcher Gary Sanchez and shortstop Didi Gregorius.

All games aired on MLB Network, TBS and Fox will be available to MLB.TV subscribers who are authenticated subscribers to the applicable network through a participating pay TV provider. (Cord cutters will be unable to view the MLB postseason via MLB.TV).

The following is the playoff baseball schedule, including dates, start times, TV networks and scheduled announcers (all times Eastern; subject to change):

In the NLCS Dodger/Cubs Saturday game (eighth inning) there was a play at home where the catcher blocked the plate and a Dodger player was called out. Upon review the out call was overturned as the catcher blocked the direct path to the plate and the Dodger player, sliding head first, was unable to touch the blocked plate. One of the announcers went on and on about how horrible the relatively new rule is, and how the runner SHOULD be out. He went on and on about it relentlessly. The fact is that the rule change caused the runner to approach home differently. In the past there would likely have been a collision because the runner, knowing the plate would be blocked, would have played accordingly. Like the announcer I am a purist and hate that rule. But I think he should have mentioned the runners decision to slide the way he did during his observations.
