ABC Trims ‘Notorious’ Episode Order to 10

Tick, Tock...the Cancellation Clock is Ticking

The proverbial axe has not swung…yet. But ABC has trimmed the episode of struggling freshman Thursday drama “Notorious” from 13 to 10, signaling that the end is near. Ratings for the most recent episode — 3.89 million viewers and a 0.9 rating/3 share in adults 18-49 (out of 8.17 million viewers and a 2.1/ 8 in the demo for lead-in “Grey’s Anatomy,” based on the Live + Same Day data) — warranted the episode reduction.

ABC, of course, has former time period occupant “Scandal” waiting in the midseason wings to replace “Notorious.” But with recent drama entry “Conviction” struggling on Monday, mixed results for its Tuesday comedy block, “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” off the charts, “How To Get Away With Murder” losing steam, and a Sunday line-up that has all but collapsed, there are problems aplenty at the Mouse House.

  1. No surprise that ABC trimmed the episode order. They’ve already aired five episodes so it looks like it will end in late November or early December. Cutting episode orders is the new cancellation. I believe last year that there were only four network series that actually got pulled from the network schedule with unaired episodes (Wicked City, Angel from Hell, Of Kings and Prophets and Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life.) Wicked City and Of Kings and Prophets actually had the same time slot, ABC Tuesdays at 10/9C (aka the ABC slot of death.) ABC has a ton of holes on their schedule.
