Amazon Orders Limited Series ‘The Underground Railroad’

11-Episodes Are Planned

Amazon has greenlit an 11-episode TV series based on Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “The Underground Railroad” from Barry Jenkins’ PASTEL and Brad Pitt’s Plan B. The novel chronicles a young slave named Cora who escapes a Georgia plantation and makes her way to freedom. The logline of the series: Life is hell for all the slaves, but especially bad for Cora; an outcast even among her fellow Africans, she is coming into womanhood — where even greater pain awaits. When Caesar, a recent arrival from Virginia, tells her about the Underground Railroad, they decide to take a terrifying risk and escape.

All 11-episodes will be directed by Barry Jenkins.
