TBS Orders Tracy Morgan Sitcom

TBS has placed a 10-episode straight-to-series order for an untitled single camera sitcom headlined by Tracy Morgan created and executive produced by Jordan Peele (“Key & Peele”) and John Carcieri (“Vice Principals”). Originally set up at FX with a pilot order, Morgan will be featured as a convict released from jail for good behavior after 15-years who is surprised to see just how much the world has changed in his absence. Returning to his newly-gentrified Brooklyn neighborhood, Tracy discovers that his former girlfriend has married an affable, successful white man, who is helping raise his twin sons he never knew existed. Wanting nothing more than to connect with his kids, but having neither the money to support them nor himself, Tracy falls back on the skills he learned in prison to make ends meet while treading on unfamiliar territory.

This Morgan sitcom became available in recent months after FX passed on it and both Comedy Central expressed interest.

The sitcom, which is expected to debut in 2017, will mark the return of the former co-star of “30 Rock” to the regularly scheduled sitcom genre after being critically injured in a car crash on the New Jersey Turnpike in June 2014 that killed Morgan’s longtime friend and fellow comedian James McNair.
