CBS Retools Monday; ‘Me, Myself & I’ Out; ‘Man With a Plan Returns’

Freshman Comedy '9JKL' Shifts to 9:30 p.m. ET

CBS, as expected, has pulled freshman comedy “Me, Myself & I” off the schedule and will bring back Matt LeBlanc sitcom “Man With a Plan” for its second season. While not officially canceled, “Me, Myself & I,” starring “SNL’s” Bobby Moynihan, is now technically the first new series cancellation of the season. Production has finished on the 13 episodes ordered and it is unclear when — and if — the remaining episodes will air.

Mirroring last season, “Man With a Plan” will open out of “Kevin Can Wait” at 8:30 p.m. beginning Nov. 13. Current time period occupant “9JKL” will shift to 9:30 p.m. out of “Superior Donuts,” which just returned for season two this week. Drama “Scorpion” remains intact at 10 p.m. ET. Next Monday, a repeat of “The Big Bang Theory” will occupy the Monday 8:30 p.m. time period.

The bottom line: While “Man With a Plan” will likely outscore “9JKL” at 8:30 p.m. (which, moving to 9:30 p.m., could be a minor improvement over “Me, Myself & I”), the key to improving Monday for CBS is finding a stronger comedy than “Kevin Can Wait” to anchor the entire evening.

  1. Those two sitcoms leading into Scorpion may be the final nail in its coffin. Ratings are already dropping and now with that lead-in…

  2. CBS should have benched “9JKL” to give the superior “Me Myself and I” a stronger lead-in from either “Big Bang” or “Kevin Can Wait”.

OR — CBS should have just positioned the superior “Me Myself and I” behind “Big Bang” from the get-go and placed “9JKL” behind “Kevin Can Wait” (and now “Superior Donuts”).

  3. CBS should’ve made this decision before this week as Me, Myself & I’s low-rated ass should’ve been out of the lineup. Superior Donuts should’ve never premiered without Man with a Plan in front of it either. Man with a Plan should be able to provide some stability between Kevin Can Wait and Superior Donuts as MWAP’s retention was always pretty good out of KCW. SD retention was like 100% on a lot of weeks out of MWAP so this was a good decision. Scorpion is probably done so who cares at this point what’s in front of it.
