The CW Orders ‘Black Lightning’ Pilot

Proposed Series Would be the Fifth Drama on The CW Set in the DC Comic Books Universe

The home of “Supergirl,” “The Flash,” “Arrow” and “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” is eying another Greg Berlanti-produced superhero drama, “Black Lightning,” for next season. The proposed series follows Jefferson Pierce, who hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he will be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning. Mara Brock Akil, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter also serve as executive producers for Warner Bros. Television

The character of Black Lightning debuted in the DC Comic book universe in April 1977, where he had returned to his home neighborhood in Metropolis and vowed to use his electricity-based powers to clean up the area and lower crime. Over the years, he has assisted numerous other superheroes including Batman and the Justice League.
