  1. FROM ABC

ABC Monday Prime (8-11pm – 11.3 million and 2.2/8 in AD18-49): With the 23rd season premiere of DWTS and the season finale of The $100,000 Pyramid, ABC was Monday’s top broadcaster in Total Viewers (11.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.2/8). On a night that included the season finales of NBC’s American Ninja Warrior and Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, ABC’s Dancing with the Stars ranked as Monday’s #1 broadcast series in Total Viewers (13.7 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.6/9).

Please Note: ABC’s Monday lineup was preempted in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington DC and Pittsburgh for local NFL coverage (10.2% of the U.S.), so the time-period based Fast Affiliate ratings are overstated. The numbers will be adjusted this afternoon with Nielsen’s release of the National L+SD Program Ratings.

Dancing With the Stars (8-10pm – 13.7 million and 2.6/9 in AD18-49): Building from its first hour to its second hour, ABC’s Dancing with the Stars beat NBC’s Ninja Warrior finale in the 2-hour time period in viewers (13.7 million vs. 5.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.6/9 vs. 1.7/6). In addition from 8-10pm, Dancing eclipsed Fox’s season finale of So You Think You Can Dance (2.3 million and 0.7/2).

    · DWTS was up from its Spring 2016 premiere (12.5 million and 1.8/6 on 3/21/16) and its year-ago September premiere (13.2 million and 2.1/7 on 9/14/15) in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49.

    · Based on TV Playback for last season in Adults 18-49, DWTS gained +0.3 rating points from L+SD to Live + 3 Day and +0.4 rating points in the Live +7 Day averages.

The $100,000 Pyramid (10-11pm – 6.6 million and 1.4/5 in AD18-49): Leading the 10pm hour, the season finale of ABC’s The $100,000 Pyramid built on its last original telecast two weeks ago on Sunday by 16% in Total Viewers (6.6 million vs. 5.7 million) and 40% in Adults 18-49 (1.4/5 vs. 1.0/3) to deliver 7-week highs on both counts – since 7/24/16.

  3. I still gotta watch DWTS but I heard last night’s episode was awesome and the Ryan Lochte stuff was funny. I can’t wait to see Calvin Johnson and Laurie Hernandez when I watch it. Very good numbers and great start for DWTS. I said this before many times but DWTS will be one of the current shows in primetime that will still be around in the 2030s, it refreshes itself every season with new stars so it’s hard for it to ever get old and crumble.

I don’t get into American Ninja Warrior but it remains a solid summer option for NBC. I wish they would’ve still had American Gladiators around.

FOX has botched SYTYCD so many times in the last few years, they should’ve kept it mid-week. I hope they don’t cancel it but they need to place it better in the lineup. If I was running FOX I would’ve actually taken a chance at airing on Friday nights during the season. I liked the kids this season but a lot of people didn’t so they may return to the teens and 20 somethings next season if it comes back.

    • I liked American Gladiators I think SI had article on it in Where Are They Now issue back in July. I wish that would return to TV surprise that it isn’t on weekends on local stations like it was in 90’s I thought it was doing good on NBC in 2008.
I think SYTYCD should go back to midweek I liked the kids edition as well but I think they go back to adults & teens as you said Larry.

      • It was doing good in 2008 for NBC I think they ran it in the summer and killed it there. I would love to see it comeback in some capacity, it might even work again in primetime on NBC if they put it right next to American Ninja Warrior.

Yeah the kids edition has been fantastic I got fatigued from watching the older kids and adults competing that this was rather refreshing maybe they can find a way to mix them all into one show like AGT does with the varying age groups who compete against each other that might help their demo expand too.

It should definitely go back to midweek, it worked best on Tuesdays but AGT killed it there but Wednesdays or Thursdays should work better. I think it could work in-season too though on Fridays but I know networks don’t want to take risks on that night anymore.
