Drama ‘Call the Midwife’ Renewed for Three More Seasons by the BBC

Triple Season Renewal Will Take the Period Drama Through at Least Season Nine

The BBC has issued a three season pick-up to drama “Call the Midwife,” which airs here on PBS and will take it through at least season nine. The renewal, which has an unconfirmed number of episodes in total, comes before the sixth season premiere in 2017.

Debuting on BBC One on Jan. 15, 2012, “Call the Midwife” is a period drama series about a group of nurse midwives working in the East End of London in the late 1950s. It stars Jessica Raine, Miranda Hart, Helen George, Bryony Hannah, Laura Main, Jenny Agutter, Pam Ferris, Judy Parfitt, Cliff Parisi, Stephen McGann, Ben Caplan, Emerald Fennell, Victoria Yeates, Linda Bassett and Charlotte Ritchie.

The renewal will take the setting of “Call the Midwife” into the 1960s.
