Five Major Worldwide Sporting Events To Look Forward to in March

March is one of the busiest months of the year in the sporting calendar as many sports begin their campaigns for the season, making it an exciting time for those who enjoy watching the action on the box or travel to these international events. Here is a look at the pick of the action during the month.

Indian Wells Masters – March 5-12, 2018

The Indian Wells Masters kicks off the hard court campaign in tennis in the United States and is one of the leading ATP Tour 1000 events. The men’s tournament, which was won by Roger Federer in 2017, is held in California, where the weather is often glorious for the world’s leading players; many of who return for the first time since the opening Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open. Defending champion Federer will be buoyed by his recent success in Melbourne and is now 50/1 with the bookmakers to win all four Grand Slams in 2018, despite being 36 years old now.

Cheltenham Festival – March 13-16, 2018

Horse racing’s Cheltenham Festival meeting is the highlight of the national hunt calendar around the world with 27 top class races across four days. The feature contest is the Cheltenham Gold Cup in which Might Bite is the 5/2 favourite in the Cheltenham betting to prevail for the UK based trainer Nicky Henderson. This meeting attracts a huge crowd as fans of the sport from around the world flock to the Gloucestershire-based course to see the leading horses in action in their respective divisions.

Start of the 2018 MLB Season – March 29, 2018

Houston Astros go into the 2018 MLB season as the defending champions after they won the World Series last October with victory over Los Angeles Dodgers. The opening games of the regular season begin on March 29 in which all 30 teams will be hoping to make a winning start to their campaigns as they chase a spot in the postseason later in the year.

Anthony Joshua v Joseph Parker – March 31, 2018

WBA and IBF heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua meets WBO titleholder Joseph Parker in Cardiff, Wales on the final day of March in what is a huge unification contest in boxing. The winner of this fight will need just the WBC crown to be named as the first undisputed heavyweight world champion since Lennox Lewis in 2000. Both of these men are unbeaten and are capable of big knockouts so there should be fireworks in the ring.
