ABC cable cousin Freeform has picked-up the planned spin-off from “black-ish,” now called “College-ish,” will focus on oldest daughter Zoey, played by Yara Shahidi, as she goes to college. Thirteen episodes of “College-ish” have been ordered and creator Kenya Barris will also oversee the spinoff
The backdoor pilot was introduced in the May 3 episode of “Black-ish,” “Liberal Arts.” It followed Shahidi as Zoey as she goes to college for orientation, where she discovered her father’s co-worker Charlie (Deon Cole) is an adjunct professor of marketing. “College-ish” is described as a contemporary take on the current issues facing both students and administrators in the world of higher education. The rest of the core cast will be new characters and actors, not seen in the flagship series, both in the administration and student body.
