FX Orders Script for Proposed ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Spin-Off

Series Will Focus on the Oakland-Based Biker Gang

FX has ordered a pilot script for a spin-off from “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter and producer Elgin James called “Mayans MC.” The proposed series will focus on the Oakland-based biker gang and is described as a “dark, visceral family drama that takes a new look at the most American of icons, the 1 percent outlaw, this time, reflected through a Latino lens.” James, who directed the film “Little Birds,” will script the first episode for Mayans MC.

“I wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice,” said Sutter of James, “Because I didn’t think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions. Elgin is that voice.”

Most recently, Sutter created FX drama “The Bastard Executioner,” which failed to make it past season one.
