‘Magnum P.I.’ Reboot in the Works at CBS

Last Year ABC Was in Talks to Revive the Detective Drama With a Focus on 'Magnum's' Daughter

CBS, the home of the original “Magnum, P.I.,” has ordered a pilot for a reboot of the 1980-1988 drama. This proposed new “Magnum P.I.” will follow Thomas Magnum, a decorated ex-Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. With help from fellow vets Theodore “TC” Calvin and Orville “Rick” Wright, as well as that of disavowed former MI:6 agent Juliet Higgins, Magnum takes on the cases no one else will, helping those who have no one else to turn to.

“Magnum P.I”. will also explore a brotherhood forged by the trauma of combat, what it means to return home an ex-soldier, and a commitment to continuing to serve while in the private sector.

Peter Lenkov, who executive produces CBS’ “Hawaii Five-0,” will shepherd the drama pilot with fellow “Five-0” scribe Eric Guggenheim. Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and John Fox will also executive produce for CBS Television Studios and Universal Television.

Last year, ABC has spearheaded a potential sequel series featuring Magnum’s daughter, Lily “Tommy” Magnum.
