Mississippi State’s Dramatic Victory at 2017 NCAA Women’s Final Four Ends UConn’s 111-Game Win Streak

Entering the game as a 21-point underdog and a year after losing by 60 points to the same UConn Huskies team, the Mississippi State Bulldogs made the Women’s Final Four semifinal matchup (from Dallas, Tex.) a competitive game versus UConn throughout the night.

As the clock was running out in the overtime period, Morgan William hits the game-winning shot for Mississippi State, winning 66-64 and advancing to their first national championship game in school history. They will face the South Carolina Gamecocks on Apr. 2.

The loss by the UConn Huskies concludes an NCAA-record 111-game winning streak and their run for a fifth consecutive national title. The Huskies’ most recent previous loss was to Stanford (also in overtime) on Nov. 17, 2014.

Dave O’Brien, Doris Burke and Kara Lawson called the action for ESPN2.
