‘Moonlight’ Actually Wins Best Picture After ‘La La Land’ Was Mistakenly Announced as Winner

What might be the most infamous moment in Oscar history began when Warren Beatty opened the Best Picture envelope then paused. His “Bonnie & Clyde” co-star Faye Dunaway took over and announced “La La Land” as the winner.

As heard faintly, someone uttered “It says Emma Stone” after Dunaway’s announcement.

After a few acceptance speeches amidst on-stage discussions with the Oscars producing crew, “La La Land” producer Jordan Horowitz officially announced the true winner of Best Picture, “Moonlight.”

The moment is reminiscent of the 2016 Miss Universe pageant when its host Steve Harvey announced the incorrect winner.
