NBC Tops 4th of July Tuesday

NBC, as expected, led this July 4th Tuesday care of annual special “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular,” which averaged a 4.4 rating/9 share in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. ET. The peak half-hour was a 6.4/13 at 9:30 p.m. Comparably, this trailed the 2016 telecast (5.0/10) by 12 percent in household rating.

At 10 p.m., an encore hour of the 4th of July special on NBC scored a 3.4/ 7. Next was a repeat of “NCIS: New Orleans” on CBS at a 3.1/ 7, followed by encore telecasts of ABC sitcoms “American Housewife” (1.2/ 2) and another installment of “The Middle” (1.1/ 2). This fall, “American Housewife” will air in the Wednesday 9:30 p.m. half-hour out of “Modern Family.”

Elsewhere, it was a night of all repeats. CBS aired “NCIS” (#2: 3.2/ 7) and “Bull” (#2: 3.1/ 7) from 8-10 p.m. ET into aforementioned “NCIS: New Orleans.” That trio of dramas will remain intact on CBS next season. ABC featured sitcoms “The Middle” (#3: 1.5/ 3), “Fresh Off the Boat” (#3: 1.1/ 2), and two episodes of ‘blackish” (#3: avg. 1.1/ 2 from 9-10 p.m.). Fox aired “Lethal Weapon” (#4: 1.0/ 2 at 8 p.m.) into comedies “The Mick” (#4: 0.7/ 2) and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (#4: 0.6/ 1) from 9-10 p.m. And two episodes of “Whose Line is it Anyway?” on The CW (#5: 0.5/ 1 from 9-10 p.m.) ran out of “The Flash” (#5: 0.4/ 1).
