Ratings Breakdown:
The new network series summer drought was in full view last night following the debuts of competing scripted dramas “Somewhere Between” on ABC and “Midnight, Texas” on NBC. “Midnight, Texas” did win the 10 p.m. hour, but a modest 2.3 rating/4 share in the household overnights was 34 percent below the 9:30 p.m. portion of lead-in “American Ninja Warrior” (3.5/ 6). “Somewhere Between,” which premieres in its regularly scheduled Tuesday 10 p.m. time period this evening finished third at a mere 2.0/ 4, which was 57 percent below the 9:30 p.m. portion of lead-in “The Bachelorette.”

Since most new series drop 10 to 20 percent in week two, consider both “Midnight, Texas” and “Somewhere Between” left at the starting gate.

In the 8-10 p.m. battle of aforementioned “The Bachelorette” (#1: 4.8/ 8) versus “American Ninja Warrior” (#2: 3.3/ 6), “The Bachelorette” held a 45 percent overnight household advantage.

Also original was Fox’s combination of “So You Think You Can Dance” (#4: 2.2/ 4) and failing recent entry “Superhuman” (#4: 1.2/ 2). The CW, meanwhile, scored a 0.7/ 1 in the 9 p.m. half-hour for “Whose Line is it Anyway?.”
