CBS Cancels ‘Mike & Molly’

CBS sitcom “Mike & Molly,” which was designated as a midseason returnee in recent seasons, will conclude after the upcoming sixth season.  With ratings still respectable, the unexpected termination comes on the heels of busy Melissa McCarthy in her final contact year. The now final season, which had its episode order reduced from 22 to 13, will return on Wednesday, January 6 at 8:30 p.m. (out of relocated “2 Broke Girls” and into “The People’s Choice Awards” that evening).

“Mike & Molly,” which debuted on Sept. 20, 2010, will have produced 127 episodes upon series completion.  Series creator Chuck Lorre, who had four shows on the air last season (including “Two and a Half Men”) will be down to just “The Big Bang Theory” and “Mom.”
