-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led in the Tuesday overnights, topping No. 2 NBC by 23 percent in households with its combination of “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 9.2 rating/15 share), freshman drama “Bull” (7.5/12) and “NCIS: New Orleans” (6.1/11). CBS finished first in each of the six half-hours. But NBC’s line-up of “The Voice” (#2: 6.5/10), the fall season-finale of “This Is Us” (#2: 7.1/11) and “Chicago Fire” (#2: 4.9/ 9) should have no trouble resulting in a first-place finish for the evening in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demos). Given the overnight growth of nine percent for “This Is Us” out of “The Voice,” “This Is Us” truly is the biggest hit new series, both creatively and by the numbers. It returns on January 10.

On ABC, veteran “The Middle” opened the night with a respectable 4.1/ 7 in the household overnights in the 8 p.m. half-hour, but it was all downhill with “American Housewife” (#3: 3.2/ 5), “Fresh Off the Boat” (#3: 2.4/ 4), “The Real O’Neals” (#3: 2.0/ 3) and “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” (#3: 1.8/ 3) from 8:30-11 p.m. The first step to repairing the night is axing “The Real O’Neals” and “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.”

“The Flash” remains The CW’s highest-rated series at a comfortable fourth-place 2.3/ 3 from 8-9 p.m., which beat competing Fox sitcoms “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (#5: 1.7/ 3) and “New Girl” (#5: 1.3/ 2) by an average of 53 percent in households. But canceled “No Tomorrow” lived up to its title with a 0.5/ 1 at 9 p.m. And competing “Scream Queens” on Fox needs to be sent packing with a 0.8/ 1 (#4). So much for renewing a series based on its strength solely in social media.
