Fox Cancels ‘Houdini and Doyle’

What we all already knew is now official. Fox has axed freshman drama “Houdini and Doyle.” The 10-episode period drama, which starred Michael Weston (“House”) as master magician Harry Houdini and Stephen Mangan (“Episodes”) as Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, drew just 2.6 million viewers and a 0.7 rating in adults 18-49 when it premiered on Fox on May 2. Those numbers sunk to 1.77 million viewers and a 0.4 in the demo in the now final episode last month.

The series followed Houdini and Doyle as they assisted Scotland Yard detectives in solving inexplicable and possibly supernatural cases. The series was a U.K./Canada Treaty co-production from Big Talk Productions and Shaftesbury in association with Sony Pictures Television, where Shore Z Productions is based. “Houdini and Doyle” premiered on the U.K.’s ITV Encore and Canada’s Global before airing on Fox.
