THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2017

-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:

CBS: -15, ABC: – 4, NBC: -10, CW: -29, Fox: -67

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS remained in the Thursday overnight winners circle, besting No. 2 ABC by an average of five percent. Leading the evening, of course, was “The Big Bang Theory” at a 9.0 rating/15 share in households in the 8 p.m. half-hour. But the Eye net can certainly do better at 8:30 p.m. than “The Great Indoors” (#2: 4.7/ 8), which slid by a hefty 48 percent. Competing “Grey’s Anatomy” on ABC, which will reach the 300-episode mark next season, was no slouch at a competitive 5.6/ 9 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m.

In series-premiere news, “The Blacklist: Redemption” got off to a modest start on NBC with a second-place 2.9/ 5 at 10 p.m. Comparably, that trailed the season-finale of ABC’s competing “How To Get Away With Murder” (#1: 3.7/ 7) by 22 percent. It was also 15 percent below year-ago time period occupant “Shades of Blue” (3.4/ 6 on 2/25/16). While the retention for “The Blacklist: Redemption” out of the winter finale of parent series “The Blacklist” (#3: 3.5/ 6 from 9-10 p.m.) was respectable at 82 percent, keep in mind that most new series decline by 10 to 20 percent in week two.

Third in the 10 p.m. hour was CBS’ recently introduced “Training Day” at a mere 2.4/ 4, which dropped from lead-in “Life in Pieces” (3.9/ 6 at 9:30 p.m.) by 36 percent and is on borrowed time.

Also on the Eye net was reliable “Mom” at dominant 5.1/ 8 in the 9 p.m. half-hour, which built from aforementioned lead-in “The Great Indoors” (#2: 4.7/ 8) by nine percent in the overnights.

Earlier in the evening on NBC were sitcoms “Superstore” (#4: 2.2/ 5 at 8 p.m.), which is confirmed to return for season three, and recently introduced “Powerless” (#4: 1.6/ 3 at 8:30 p.m.), which has no shot at a second season.

On ABC, a 9 p.m. installment of “How To Get Away With Murder” scored a second-place 3.9/ 6 in the household overnights.

Elsewhere, Fox is clearly feeling the loss of “American Idol” with the combination of “MasterChef Junior” (#3: 2.6/ 4) and “My Kitchen Rules” (#4: 1.5/ 2), which, on average, declined by 67 percent from the year-ago two-hour edition of “Idol” (6.0/ 9 on 2/25/16). And The CW was at typical Thursday household overnight levels with its paring of “Supernatural” (#5: 1.1/ 2) and “Riverdale” (0.8/ 1).
