Positive Sampling for ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ on CBS

'Sunday Night Football' on NBC Dominates Evening, However

SUNDAY 9/17/17

What follows are the metered market household results by half-hour for Sunday, September 24, 2017:

Household Rating/Share
NBC: 9.0/14, CBS: 8.3/14, ABC: 2.7/ 5, Fox: 2.0/ 3

-Percent Change From the Comparable Year-Ago Week:
ABC: + 4, Fox: no change, CBS: – 6, NBC: -10

Ratings Breakdown:
Note: Since the NFL football primetime overrun ended at a reported 7:48 p.m. ET, all individual program results on CBS are approximate. That said, the Eye net accomplished what it was hoping and got “Star Trek: Discovery” sampled. Airing out of the 50th season-premiere of “60 Minutes” (#1: 10.6 rating/18 share from 7:48-8:48 p.m. ET and now featuring Oprah Winfrey), this latest addition in the “Star Trek” franchise opened with a 6.7/11 in the household overnights from 8:48-9:48 p.m. ET.

Comparably, this was not enough to come even close to the Oakland Raiders/Washington Redskins match-up on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football,” which averaged an estimated 11.5/20 in the household overnights from 8:30-11:15 p.m. ET. But “Star Trek: Discovery” was on the overnight map and it led upcoming home CBS All Access to a new record for subscriber sign-ups in a single day (beating the previous record held by the 2017 “Grammy Awards”). Let’s now see what the demographics look like.

In the specials department was Fox with “Who Shot Biggie & Tupac” at a modest 2.2/ 3 from 8-10 p.m. And concluding for the season was 9-11 p.m. ABC game shows “Steve Harvey’s Funderdome” (#3t: 2.4/ 4) and “The $100,000 Pyramid” (#3: 2.5/ 5).
