Trio of Game Shows Lead ABC to Sunday Overnight Victory

Ratings Breakdown:
ABC narrowly inched past CBS and Fox for dominance in the Sunday household overnights with its combination of a repeat of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (#4: 2.3 rating/5 share), “Celebrity Family Feud” (#1: 4.1/ 8), recent entry “Steve Harvey’s Funderdome” (#1: 3.2/ 6) and “The $100,000 Pyramid” (#1: 3.2/ 6). Compatible is clearly the word for the three game shows.

Tops for the night was coverage on Fox of the 2017 U.S. Open Golf Championship, which averaged a 5.0/11 in the household overnights from 7-8:30 p.m. But an 8:30-9:30 p.m. ET telecast of reality/competition “American Grit” fell off the charts at a mere 1.1/ 2 (#4). And that led into a 0.9/ 2 (#4) for a repeat of “Family Guy” at 9:30 p.m.

On NBC, week three of newsmagazine “Megyn Kelly on Sunday” (#3: 2.6/ 5) trailed a repeat of “60 Minutes” on CBS (#2: 4.2/ 9) by 38 percent, which certainly may not bode well for Kelly on NBC in the weekday mornings this fall. And that led into repeats of “American Ninja Warrior” (#4: 1.5/ 3 from 8-10 p.m.) and “Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge” (#3: 1.2/ 2 at 10 p.m.).

Airing out of “60 Minutes” on CBS were encore telecasts of “NCIS: Los Angeles” (#2: 3.0/ 6), “Madam Secretary” (#2: 2.7/ 5) and “Code Black” (#2: 2.3/ 5) from 8-11 p.m.
