Prediction: Empire will get beat by Modern Family or maybe another show this fall routinely in the demo.

That show peaked way too fast sad to say.

It did have a crazy first season, however, and as much as you’d have to pay me to watch it, it was in retrospect quite remarkable (and a change from the boring DOA flops we usually get).

As we discussed before, it was a great idea for a mini-series and it worked as a mini-series throughout season 1. It was not entirely surprising it stopped working (but then again I never understood why people watched it in the first place! 😉 ).

It’s already below Criminal Minds in audience, which is what counts.

That show empires age shouldn’t be strugging

Designated Survivor has started getting good again content wise. I am sure they will renew it because they have already selected a new show runner for a hypothetical season 2

    • renamoretti1

It was their most-pushed show for the year. They were never going to cancel it (see FOX and Scream Queens which was a massive flop and got renewed anyway).

      • Garebelman

Scream Queens I knew wouldn’t have a larger audience because it’s B horror genre. That’s overy niche. Appeals to me but won’t on TV. Not quite the same as Designated Survivor which is a fast paced political show.

If you want to know what is being considered for renewal go to the website Deadline and check out the “Prime Time Panic” section which discusses pilots that are strong and which shows will likely get picked up. I am reading Exorcist on Fox may get a season 2. Shocked me a bit. Quality wise it was SUPERB. But I know ratings wise it was not. Good for me apparently since I loved it. Very dark.

        • renamoretti1

That’s a very interesting and cogent analysis. 🙂

I was surprised how poorly Scream Queens did. I thought all the hype FOX spent on it would at least buy it a semi-decent premiere.

I don’t think political shows are all that popular today as a lot of people hear enough about it the rest of the day.

On renewals: I used to be completely into the guessing game, but it was when renewals were mostly based on ratings.

Today they’re based on who is “hot” with the network and it has nothing to do with quality or ratings (except for the handful of remaining hits or solid shows.)

I predicted long ago Designated Survivor would be renewed as per the above. 🙂

NBC has canned Emerald City. They have picked up “Rise” and “For God and Country”
