‘The Voice’ Leads NBC to Thursday Victory

An 8 p.m. Thursday edition of NBC’s “The Voice” led the evening with a 6.9 rating/12 share in the household overnights. Comparably that bested encore telecasts of CBS’ competing “The Big Bang Theory” (#2: 5.9/10) and “Mom” (#2: 4.6/ 8) by an average of 31 percent, and it led NBC to rare overnight victory for the night.

Airing out of “The Voice,” NBC’s “Chicago Med” perked up to a first-place 5.6/ 9 at 9 p.m. Next was week two of spin-off “The Blacklist: Redemption” at 3.3/ 6 at 10 p.m., which dominated the time period and built from its week-ago opener (2.9/ 5 on Feb. 23) by 14 percent. But the overnight retention for “The Blacklist: Redemption” out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “Chicago Med” (5.5/ 9) was lacking at 60 percent. That 2.9 overnight household rating last week translated into 4.26 million viewers and a 0.8 rating/3 share in adults 18-49 (based on the Live + Same Day data).

Also on CBS was an repeat of “The Big Bang Theory” (#2: 4.9/ 8 at 9 p.m.) into a 3.5/ 6 (#2) for an encore of “Life in Pieces” at 9:30 p.m. Next was recent entry “Training Day,” featuring the late Bill Paxton, at a slightly improved 3.0/ 5 (#2) at 10 p.m.

On ABC, 8 p.m. special “When We Rise: The People Behind the Story” (#4: 2.1/ 4 at 8 p.m.) led into a mere1.6/ 3 for night three of “When We Rise” at 9-11 p.m. Needless to say, ABC is unlikely to develop another limited series of this magnitude anytime in the near future.

In season (or series) finale news was Fox’s “My Kitchen Rules” at a sluggish 1.6/ 3 (#4) at 9 p.m. Comparably, that dipped by 33 percent from lead-in “MasterChef” (#3: 2.4/ 4 at 8 p.m.). And The CW capped off the evening with typical overnight performances for “Supernatural” (#5: 1.2/ 2) and “Riverdale” (#5: 0.8/ 1).
