Monday Final Nationals: ABC Dominates Prime Time Demos with ‘Bachelor’ Season Finale Night

'Hip Hop Squares' Solid in VH1 Debut

NBC captured the third consecutive Monday night total-viewer crown (10.08 million).

ABC ruled the night, by far, among adults 18-49 (2.6 rating/9 share), adults 18-34 (2.4/11) and adults 25-54 (2.9/8). The 21st season finale of “The Bachelor,” where Nick Viall selected Vanessa Grimaldi as his fiancé, spiked to season highs in viewership and adults 18-49. On average compared to the same point last season, The Bachelor is up 11 percent in Adults 18-49 (3.1/10 vs. 2.8/9) to tie a 6-year high and up 15 percent in Adults 18-34 (3.1/13 vs. 2.7/10) to score a 7-year high – since 2010 and 2009, respectively.

The after-show special “The Bachelor: After the Final Rose,” which included the brief start to the upcoming “Bachelorette” season with Rachel Lindsay, dominated the 10pm hour in Adults 18-49 (2.4/8), doubling the hour’s runner-up show, NBC’s Taken (1.2/4). It was also the most watched TV show overall in the time period (7.8 million).

The VH1 2-episode debut of game show “Hip Hop Squares” — another update of the classic “Hollywood Squares” — performed well among young adults including adults 18-34 (1.08 rating at 9 p.m., 1.01 at 9:30 p.m.) topping cable for the 9 p.m. hour as well as ranking runner-up to ABC’s aforementioned “The Bachelor” (2.5 rating at 9 p.m., 2.7 at 9:30 p.m.) in the same hour.
