‘Saturday Night Live’ Season Opener Scores 8.3 Million Viewers

Most-Watched Season Premiere in Eight Years

The 42nd season premiere of “Saturday Night Live,” hosted by Margot Robbie and featuring the first appearance by Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump, was the most-watched season debut in eight years. It averaged 8.30 million viewers and built by 31 percent from the year-ago season-opener (6.32 million for the Oct. 3, 2015).

In adults 18-49, the 42nd “SNL season premiere averaged a 2.34 rating/11 share – up 29 percent from the 1.82 rating one year earlier. Comparably, this is the highest-rated “SNL” season premiere in the demo since Sept. 28, 2013 (2.39 with host Tina Fey and musical guest Arcade Fire).
