On the heels of the CBS expressing interest in a new version of classic sitcom “The Honeymooners” comes word that a number of sitcom occupants in the Norman Lear library could be returning in a series of six-episode anthologies from Sony Pictures Television. Discussions are underway to re-create episodes of “All in the Family,” “Maude,” “The Jeffersons” and “Good Times” with new actors working from the original scripts. “Maude” and “The Jeffersons,” of course, were spun-off from the original “All in the Family,” while “Maude” begat “Good Times.”

Sony has suggested that the miniseries would be like re-staging a play, allowing current audiences to benefit from the approach of these comedies. But, my personal opinion is if the audience wants to enjoy “All in the Family,” “The Jeffersons” and the others, watch the originals. Thanks to the diginets, they are all currently available.

Another Norman Lear sitcom that will officially return, “One Day at a Time,” featuring a Latino cast, will be available for streaming on Netflix on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017.
