Year-to-year, the 'Super Bowl' Was Down by Three Percent in the Overnights

Ratings Breakdown:
It was all about “Super Bowl LII” on NBC, of course, with the Philadelphia Eagles’ 41 to 33 victory over the New England Patriots at an estimated 47.4 household rating from 6:31-10:25 p.m. ET. Comparably, this was three percent below the 48.8/56 for the “Super Bowl” in the household overnights on Fox in 2017, which translated into 111.3 million viewers (based on the Live + Same Day data from Nielsen). And it was the lowest rated based on these household overnights since 2010. Take a look at the household overnight track:

The adult 18-49 rating for “Super Bowl LII” was a 37.5 (based on the 25 overnight markets that monitor them.

The special edition of NBC’s “This Is Us,” which revealed how Milo Ventimiglia as Jack Pearson died, scored an approximate 16.2 household overnight rating from 10:45-11:49 p.m. ET (with an 11.2 rating in adults 18-49). Following the late local news, that led into a 5.7 household rating for a live edition of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” from 12:24-1:35 a.m. ET.
