Ratings Breakdown:
The power of network television was in display last night, with a 21.0 rating/34 share in total in the household overnights for the Big three broadcasters. CBS, as expected, led the troops with the 2017 NCAA Basketball Tournament (North Carolina Tar Heels 71, Gonzaga Bulldogs 65) at an estimated 14.2 rating/23 share from 9-11:40 p.m. ET. As always, results for any live sporting event are always estimated.

Earlier in the evening on the Eye net was an encore telecast of “The Big Bang Theory” (#3: 4.9/ 8 at 8 p.m.) into the basketball pre-game at a 3.9/ 6 (#3) in the 8:30 p.m. half-hour.

In the battle of the reality competitions ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” scored a 7.4/12 in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m., besting competing “The Voice” on NBC (6.2/10) by 19 percent. But “The Voice,” of course, will have the advantage in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demographics).

Both ABC and NBC, unfortunately, continue to squander the lead-in support, with NBC’s recently introduced “Taken” at a 3.1/ 6 (#2) and ABC’s sophomore “Quantico” at a 2.3/ 4 at 10 p.m. Comparably, overnight retention out of the 9:30 p.m. half-hour was 50 percent for “Taken” out of “The Voice,” and just 32 percent for “Quantico” out of “Dancing With the Stars.”

Elsewhere, Fox cannot compete on Monday with its recent paired of dramas “24: Legacy” (#4: 2.4/ 4) and “APB” (#4: 1.9/ 3). Note to Fox: “24” without Kiefer Sutherland is just not “24.” And The CW populated this first Monday in April with repeats of “Supergirl” (#8: 0.8/ 1) and “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” (#5: 0.7/ 1).
