Thursday Overnights: Solid ‘The Wall’ on NBC

CBS Tops Night on the Strength of a 'Big Bang Theory' Encore

THURSDAY, JULY 27, 2017

Household Rating/Share
CBS: 3.2/ 6, NBC: 2.8/ 5, Fox: 1.8/ 3, ABC: 1.7/ 3, CW: 0.9/ 2

-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:
CW: +80, Fox: +38, NBC: +22, CBS: – 6, ABC: -19

-Ratings Breakdown:
A encore telecast of CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” at 8 p.m. ET topped the night, lifting the Eye net to another Thursday of household overnight victory. Of positive note on NBC was 9 p.m. game show “The Wall” (#2: 2.9 rating/5 share), which bested competing (and already renewed) “Beat Shazam” on Fox (1.6/ 3) by hefty 81 percent. It also increased from lead-in “Hollywood Game Night” (2.5/ 5 from 8-9 p.m.) by 12 percent.

In the battle of the original 10 p.m. dramas, NBC’s “The Night Shift” benefited out of “The Wall,” with a dominant 2.7/ 5 versus a 1.8/ 3 for competing (and deteriorating) “Zoo” on CBS. Particularly unimpressive last night was ABC with its original non-scripted combination of “Boy Band” (#4: 1.6/ 4), “Battle of the Network Stars” (#3: 1.9/ 3) and “The Gong Show” (#3: 1.6/ 3). Also original was The CW’s combination of “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” (#5: 1.2/ 2) and recently introduced “Hooten & the Lady” (#5: 0.6/ 1).

  1. I feel very confident that Battle of the Network Stars will get renewed at this point and get a format change next year it still has too much potential to get way better than the way it is right now. I’m still enjoying the episodes every week and ESPN Classic has been playing the original episodes in the afternoons before the show begins.

I’m enjoying Boy Band too but it can use some tweaks as well if ABC decides to bring it back. I think they should as they have Idol next season to promote it but they need to add the girl groups in as well.

Gong Show is the only one that I wouldn’t bring back as it seems to have flattened out and ABC can easily reboot another game show from the past.

    • I was surprise that who played Wayne wouldn’t wear the red shirt until the swinging completion last week surprise that ABC didn’t edit CK part out I’m sure CK liked the free ad. Surprise that Battle Of The Network Stars doesn’t have apparel agreement with Nike, Adidas or Under Armour.
