Ratings Breakdown:
It was another clean household overnight sweep for CBS care of “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 10.4 rating/16 share), sure-to-be renewed “Bull” (7.3/11) and “NCIS: New Orleans” (6.2/10). But the true freshman series success story of the evening remains NBC’s “This Is Us” at a 6.4/10 at 9 p.m. and a lock for dominance in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demographics). “This Is Us” led into a 4.6/ 8 (#2) for “Chicago Fire” at 10 p.m., which will surely also dominate the hour demographically. Earlier in the evening on NBC is game show “The Wall,” which at a second-place 3.9/ 6 in the 8 p.m. hour is certainly worthy of renewal.

In time period premiere news, “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” on The CW got a minor boost at a 1.3/ 2 at 9 p.m. (out of a 1.9/ 3 for the return of original episodes of “The Flash” at 8 p.m.).

Elsewhere, Fox could not compete with its line-up of sitcoms “New Girl” (#5: 1.8/ 3 at 8 p.m.) and “The Mick” (#4: 2.0/ 3 at 8:30 p.m.), followed by soon-to-conclude “Bones” at a 2.0/ 3 at 9 p.m. After 12 seasons and countless time periods, “Bones” is worthy of a larger audience at the end.

ABC traveled the repeat sitcom route last night with regularly scheduled “The Middle” (#3: 2.8/ 5), “American Housewife” (#3: 2.2/ 3), “Fresh Off the Boat” (#4: 1.8/ 3) and “The Real O’Neals” (#4: 1.4/ 2) from 8-10 p.m. And they led into a very modest 1.4/ 3 in the household overnights for an original installment of “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” at 10 p.m.
