The Vikings’ Victory on Preseason Football Leads NBC to Sunday Overnight Victory

Game Show 'Candy Crush' on CBS Remains an Eyesore

SUNDAY 8/20/17

What follows are the metered market household results by half-hour for Sunday, August 20, 2017:

Household Rating/Share
NBC: 4.2/ 8, CBS: 3.2/ 6, ABC: 3.0/ 5, Fox: 1.8/ 3

-Percent Change From the Comparable Year-Ago Week:
NBC: +14, ABC and CBS: – 6 each, Fox: -10

Ratings Breakdown:
The Minnesota Vikings’ victory over the San Francisco 49ers, 32 to 31, on NFL Preseason Football led NBC to Sunday overnight household victory with an estimated 4.7 rating/8 share from 8-11 p.m. ET. Comparably, this was a 12 percent increase over the 4.2/ 7 for the preseason match-up on the year-ago evening. As a reminder, overnight results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

On CBS, summer young adult demographic attraction “Big Brother” was close to year-ago overnight levels, with a second-place 4.0/ 7 from 8-9 p.m. Comparably, that tied competing “Celebrity Family Feud” on ABC and the end result this week will, hopefully, result in one of these floaters getting evicted. Note to any future houseguests: floating can only get you so far. It is the big moves that count on “Big Brother.”

Despite the respectable lead-in support from “Big Brother,” recently introduced CBS game show “Candy Crush,” hosted by Mario Lopez, slipped to a 1.3/ 2 in the 9 p.m. hour. Comparably, that trailed competing “Steve Harvey’s Funderdome” on ABC (#2: 2.4/ 4) by 46 percent.

Also original last night was ABC’s “The $100,000 Pyramid,” hosted by Michael Strahan, at a second-place 2.7/ 5 at 10 p.m.
