Wednesday Overnights: CBS’ ‘Code Black’ Flexes More Muscle Opposite The NBA Finals on ABC

The Eye Net May Want to Reverse its Decision to Cancel the Medical Drama

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 6, 2018

Household Rating/Share
ABC: 9.2/16, CBS: 2.9/ 5, NBC and Fox: 2.5/ 4, CW: 0.6/ 1

Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening
Fox: +25, CW: +20, CBS: – 3, ABC: – 6, NBC: – 7

-Ratings Breakdown:
Game 3 of The NBA Finals (Warriors 110, Cavaliers 102) led ABC to a significant Wednesday overnight victory, of course. The game averaged an estimated 12.4 rating/22 share in households from 9-11:35 p.m. ET, which was just four percent below the 12.9/23 on the year-ago evening. And that game three averaged 20.1 million viewers and a 7.2 rating/28 share in adults 18-49 (based on the Live+Same Day data).

Over at CBS, the network may want to reconsider its decision to cancel “Code Black.” While the skew of the medical drama is older, “Code Black” remained on the overnight map (despite facing game three of The NBA Finals) with a 3.9/ 7 in households. Comparably, that was on par with the 4.0/ 7 one week earlier (which should translate into over 6-million viewers). It outdelivered episode two of competing NBC drama “Reverie” (#3: 1.5/ 3) by a considerable 160 percent. And it built from an encore telecast of lead-in “SEAL Team” (#3t: 2.4/ 4 at 9 p.m.) by 62 percent.

Also original last night was “American Ninja Warrior” on NBC at a 3.0/ 5 from 8-10 p.m., which was just six percent below its week-ago season-opener (3.2/ 6 on May 30). And “MasterChef” on Fox, also from 8-10 p.m., scored a 2.5/ 4, which was 11 percent below the 2.8/ 5 opener last Wednesday.

“The Originals” on The CW, meanwhile, scored a 0.7/ 1 at 9 p.m. (out of a 0.5/ 1 for an encore telecast of “Supergirl”).

  1. Marc I actually agree with you about Code Black I think CBS might want to reverse that decision. It’s not doing too badly for a 10pm drama and it’s really beating down Reverie right now and tripling its numbers.
