Wednesday Overnights: Solid Start for ‘Big Brother: Celebrity Edition’ on CBS

Fox's '9-1-1' Tops the 9 p.m. ET Hour

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2018

Household Rating/Share
NBC: 4.5/ 8, CBS: 3.8/ 6, Fox: 3.6/ 6, ABC: 1.9/ 3, CW: 0.8/ 1

Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:

NBC: +12, Fox: no change, CBS: – 3, CW: -20, ABC: -46

Ratings Breakdown:
NBC scored a household overnight midweek victory with its Wednesday drama trio: “The Blacklist” (#2: 4.2 rating/7 share at 8 p.m.), veteran “Law & Order: SVU” (#2: 4.4/ 7 at 9 p.m.) and “Chicago PD” (#1: season high 4.7/ 8 at 10 p.m.). But the bigger story was the launch of “Big Brother: Celebrity Edition” on CBS at a dominant 4.7/ 8 in the household overnights at 8 p.m. Comparably, this was nine percent above “The Amazing Race” one week earlier (4.3/ 7 on Feb. 1), and 42 percent above short-lived year-ago reality competition “Hunted” (3.3/ 5 on 2/08/17). In other words, “Big Brother: Celebrity Edition” will clearly keep CBS on the map opposite the 2018 Winter Olympics on NBC.

At 9 p.m. on CBS was “The Amazing Race,” which moved into the hour last night with a third-place 3.7/ 6. A second installment of “The Amazing Race” finished second at 10 p.m. with a 3.2/ 6 in the household overnights, which was 88 percent above competing “The Match Game” on ABC (#3: 1.7/ 3).

Earlier in the evening on ABC was animated 2015 theatrical “Inside Out” at a modest 1.9/ 3 from 8-10 p.m.

Elsewhere, Fox’s recently introduced (and already renewed) “9-1-1” is the absolute real deal, with a first-place 4.7/ 8 in the household overnights from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that was 81 percent above lead-in “The X-Files” (#4: 2.6/ 4 at 8 p.m.), and 62 percent above former time period occupant “Star” on the year-ago evening (2.9/ 5 on 2/08/17).

The CW, meanwhile, had a typical Wednesday care of social media magnet “Riverdale” (#5: 1.0/ 2 at 8 p.m.) and failing “Dynasty” (#5: 0.5/ 1), which moves to Fridays at 8 p.m. effective on March 9.
