73rd Primetime Emmy Awards: ‘The Crown’, ‘Ted Lasso’ and ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ Take Top Honors

In a bright and quainter setting at L.A. Live’s Event Deck, hosted by Cedric the Entertainer and featuring the welcome return of a live audience, Netflix’s “The Crown” was the big winner at Sunday’s live 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards telecast. It scored seven wins (including Outstanding Drama Series, Josh O’Connor and Olivia Colman in the Lead Actor and Actress in a Drama categories, and Gillian Anderson for Supporting Actress). With two additional Emmys for “The Queen’s Gambit” (including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series) and Ewan McGregor for Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for “Halston”, and Netflix led the night with 10 trophies.

Combined with the already announced Creative Arts Emmy Awards and the total for Netflix was 44 Emmys, which ties the all-time record for a single year. Comparably, that was the biggest winning tally since CBS hit that level in 1974.

“The Crown” in total won 11 Emmys, making it the most honored series of the year.

In comedy, Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso”, as won seven Emmys in total (including Comedy Series, Jason Sudeikis for Lead Actor in a Comedy, and Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingham in the supporting categories).

“Hacks” from HBO Max, which entered the night with 15 nominations, scored three wins: writing, directing and Jean Smart for Lead Actress in a Comedy. HBO and HBO Max won 19 Emmys in total.
