Alabama (1) vs. Cincinnati (4) Preview
It’s never a surprise to see the Crimson Tide at the top of the NCAA rankings at the end of the season, and once again they look like a juggernaut. Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Bryce Young leads an attack that features dynamic skill position players like Brian Robinson Jr. at running back and the deadly receiver Jameson Williams. The offensive line, led by massive NFL prospect Evan Neal, is also a strength once again. The only team to beat Alabama (Texas A&M) did so by running up an early lead, forcing the Crimson Tide into a pass-heavy game script, and unleashing a multi-faceted pass rush.
That won’t be an easy formula for Cincinnati to replicate, although the defense has a chance to slow down the favorites thanks to the combination of edge rusher Myjai Sanders and ace cover corner Ahmad Gardner. If inconsistent but explosive dual-threat quarterback Desmond Riddler can have one of his best games, the Bearcats have a chance to keep up on offense, too.
Michigan (2) vs. Georgia (3) preview
If you’re a fan of hard-nosed football, this is a great matchup for you. Michigan is having its best season of the Jim Harbaugh era thanks to a power running attack led by Hassan Haskins and Blake Corum—who’ve combined for 31 rushing touchdowns—and a star-studded defense led by top prospect Aidan Hutchinson.
Georgia is built around defense, featuring a swarming group full of future NFLers like Nakobe Dean, Travon Walker, and Derion Kendrick. The Bulldogs have demonstrated incredible defensive depth all season long, with 16 different players registering a sack and nine managing at least one interception. On offense, quarterback Stetson Bennett spreads the ball around in an egalitarian manner, making it hard for opposing defenses to know who to lock in on.
