Fox won Wednesday among total viewers (8.05 million) and all key demos. CBS was just 233,000 viewers behind Fox on the night.
NBCSN was the night’s top sports cable network as the 2016-17 NHL regular season opened with the St. Louis Blues and the Chicago Blackhawks. At a 0.53 U.S. household rating and 905,000 viewers, the game was the fifth most-watched season opener ever on the network; although, it was the least-watched season-opening night featured game since 2011 (Philadelphia-Boston 10/6/11 874,000).
In the late slot for most of the country, San Jose-Los Angeles drew a 0.28 U.S. household rating and 484,000 viewers; up 22 percent from the year-ago opening night nightcap (396,000 viewers) and up 9 percent from 2014 (446,000 viewers) — all games involving San Jose and Los Angeles as well.
