The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards: And the Winners Were…

The 74th Emmy Awards, celebrating the best in television, were presented Monday in Los Angeles. HBO’s “Succession”, Apple TV’s “Ted Lasso” and HBO’s “The White Lotus” took the top three prizes of the evening – Outstanding Drama, Comedy and Limited Series, respectively. “The White Lotus” scored the most Primetime Emmy wins, with six, followed by “Succession” and “Ted Lasso” with three each.

Of note, Lee Jung-jae of Netflix’s “Squid Games” became the first Asian actor to ever win lead actor in a drama series, and the fourth Asian person ever to win an acting Emmy, while HBO’s “Euphoria” star Zendaya became the first Black woman to win lead actress in a drama series, and the youngest two-time winner of any Emmy in history. While the majority of wins remains non-broadcast network entries, the exception this years was two wins for freshman ABC comedy “Abbott Elementary” (Sheryl Lee Ralph for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy and Quinta Brunson in the comedy writing category. NBC’s veteran “Saturday Night Live”, meanwhile, was named Outstanding Sketch Comedy Series.
