NBC Tuesday Overnights Up 14 Percent from Year-Ago Night

Ratings Breakdown:
It was a clean Tuesday household overnight sweep for CBS care of its combination of dramas “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 9.7 rating/16 share), “Bull” (7.2/12) and “NCIS: New Orleans (6.1/10). But the home of “This is Us,” NBC, is the network to beat in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demographics). Recent game show entry “The Wall” opened the night for NBC with a 4.0/ 7 (#2t) in the 8 p.m. hour, followed by aforementioned “This Is Us” (#2: 6.4/10) and “Chicago Fire” (#2: 4.5/ 8) from 9-11 p.m. In this era of fractionalization, “This Is Us” is indeed the new breakout hit of the season.

ABC, as always, started out respectfully on Tuesday with 8-9 p.m. comedies “The Middle” (#2: 4.3/ 7) and “American Housewife” (#3: 3.6/ 6), which is all but certain to snag a second season renewal. But it was downhill from 9-11 p.m. as a result of sitcoms “Fresh Off the Boat” (#3: 2.4/ 4) and “The Real O’Neals” (#3t: 1.9. 3), which has very little change of a third season, and “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” (#3: 1.5/ 3).

Elsewhere, recent Fox sitcom entry “The Mick” (#4: 2.0/ 3 at 8:30 p.m.) continues to build from “New Girl” (#4: 1.8/ 3 at 8 p.m.), this week by 11 percent in the household overnights. Part of that growth, of course, stems from the higher HUT levels. And “The Mick” led into this final season of “Bones” at a diluted 1.9/ 3 (#4) from 9-11 p.m.

The CW capped off the evening with an encore telecast of “The Flash” (#5: 0.8/ 1 at 8 p.m.) and the series-finale of drama “No Tomorrow” (#5: 0.5/ 1).
