Clean Tuesday Overnight Sweep for CBS; ‘This is Us’ on NBC is the Standout

Ratings Breakdown:
It was a clean overnight household sweep for CBS with its line-up of “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 9.2 rating/16 share), “Bull” (6.7/11) and “NCIS: New Orleans” (6.6/12), which was 65 percent above failed drama “Limitless” on the year-ago evening (4.0/ 7 on 2/16/16). But the bigger story remains “This is Us” on NBC, which scored a 6.2/10 in the overnights at 9 p.m. and will top the evening in adults 18-49 (and all the key demographic groups). Comparably, “This Is Us” was 38 percent above former time period occupant “Chicago Med” one year earlier (4.5/ 7), and it built from the 8:30 p.m. portion of game show “The Wall” (3.5/ 6 at 8 p.m.) by 77 percent.

Overall, “The Wall” scored a 3.5/ 6 in the 8 p.m. hour, which bested year-ago time period occupant “Hollywood Game Night” (2.5/ 4) by a hefty 40 percent. And “Chicago Fire,” which leads out of “This Is Us,” should have no trouble winning the Tuesday 10 p.m. hour in adults 18-49 with a 4.3/ 8 (#2) in the household overnights.

On The CW, the finale of reality/competition “Tough Mudder: The Challenge Within,” which was featured in the first five episodes on digital platform CW Seed, had no traction with a mere 0.4/ 1 at 8 p.m. And it led into a 0.5/ 1 for an encore telecast of “The Flash” at 9 p.m.

Elsewhere, ABC had a typical Tuesday, declining as the night progressed with its combination of sitcoms “The Middle” (#2: 3.9/ 7), “American Housewife” (#3: 3.4/ 6), “Fresh off the Boat” (#3: 2.3/ 4) and “The Real O’Neals” (#4: 1.8/ 3), and sluggish “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” (#3: 1.5/ 3 at 10 p.m.). And Fox could not compete with its line-up of “New Girl” (#4: 1.6/ 3), recently introduced sitcom “The Mick” (#4: 1.7/ 3) and soon-to-conclude “Bones” (#4: 1.9/ 3).
