Cinemax Cancels ‘The Knick’

Cinemax has opted against a third season of drama “The Knick.” “After a critically acclaimed two-season run of “The Knick” on Cinemax, we will not be going forward with additional episodes of the series,” said Kary Antholis, president, HBO Miniseries and Cinemax Programming. “Despite our pride in and affection for the series, as well as our respect for and gratitude towards Steven Soderbergh and his team, we have decided to return Cinemax to its original primetime series fare of high-octane action dramas, many of which will be internationally co-produced.”

Debuting on August 8, 2014, “The Knick” was set at the Knickerbocker Hospital in New York City in 1900, and focused on the innovative surgeons, nurses and staff who struggled against the limitations of current medical understanding and practice, in effort to minimize morbidity and mortality. It starred Clive Owen as Dr. John W. “Thack” Thackery. Twenty episodes in total aired, with the now series finale on Dec. 18, 2015.
