Ratings Breakdown:
ABC was the top overnight draw, as usual, on this fourth Monday in April, besting the home of “The Voice,” NBC, by 12 percent in households. But NBC is still the network to beat in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demographics).
“Dancing with the Stars” on ABC scored a dominant 7.4 rating/12 in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m., which was 11 percent below the 8.3/13 on the year-ago evening and 23 percent above aforementioned “The Voice” on NBC (6.0/10). Comparably, “The Voice” was only five percent below the 6.3/10 one year earlier.
Both “Quantico” on ABC and “Taken” on NBC at 10 p.m., however, continue to squander the lead-in support. Recently introduced “Taken” won the hour with a 3.0/ 5, which slipped by 49 percent from the 9:30 p.m. portion of “The Voice” (5.9/ 9). And sophomore “Quantico” finished third with a mere 2.0/ 3, which was 74 percent below the 7.6/12 for “Dancing with the Stars” at 9:30 p.m. One of the key issues for the broadcast networks next fall is finding stronger scripted dramas as a lead-in to their late local newscasts.
In season (or series) finale news was freshman Fox crime solver “APB” at a modest 1.9/ 3 at 9 p.m., which certainly does not bode well for renewal. “Gotham” returned on Fox at 8 p.m. with an also disappointing 2.3/ 4 (#4), which was eight below the season (or series) finale of “24: Legacy” one week earlier (2.5/ 4 on April 17).
Elsewhere, The CW opened with a 1.5/ 2 for “Supergirl” at 8 p.m., which led into a typically modest 0.7/ 1 for critically acclaimed “Jane the Virgin” at 9 p.m. And CBS was in all repeats care of “The Big Bang Theory” (#3: 4.3/ 7), “Superior Donuts” (#3: 3.1/ 5), “Kevin Can Wait” (#3: 2.9/ 5), “2 Broke Girls” (#3: 2.3/ 4) and “Scorpion” (#2: 2.7/ 5).
