What follows are the metered market (overnight) results in households by network and by half-hour for Wednesday, April 26, 2017:
Household Rating/Share
CBS: 4.3/ 7, NBC and Fox: 3.6/ 6, ABC: 3.3/ 6, CW: 0.8/ 1
-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:
NBC: +38, CBS: – 2, ABC: – 8, Fox: -32, CW: -43
-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS topped this final Wednesday in the household overnights, but the home of “Empire,” Fox, is still a lock for dominance in adults 18-49 (and all the young adult demographics). “Empire” led the 9 p.m. hour with a 4.7 rating/7 share in households, which was 81 percent above the 2.6/ 4 (#4) for lead-in “Shots Fired” at 8 p.m. Comparably, however, “Empire” did slip by a hefty 33 percent from the 7.0/11 on the year-ago evening. That is the danger of being an immediate hit out of the box.
CBS’ veteran “Survivor,” which proved last night that no contestant should ever feel that secure, dominated the evening with a 5.4/ 9 in the household overnights from 8-9 p.m. That led into a 4.4/ 7 for also veteran “Criminal Minds” at 9 p.m., which is a confirmed go for season 13, followed by sophomore spin-off “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” at a third-place 2.9/ 5 at 10 p.m. Don’t count on a third season renewal for “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.”
First in the 10 p.m. hour was “Chicago PD” on NBC at a 4.3/ 7, followed by ABC’s sure-to-return “Designated Survivor” at a 3.5/ 6.
Earlier in the evening on ABC were sitcoms “The Goldbergs” (#2: 3.7/ 7), “Speechless” (#2t: 2.9/ 5) and two episodes of “black-ish” (9 p.m.: #4: 3.0/ 5; 9:30 p.m.: #4: 2.9/ 5), which despite the critical acclaim has never been a big draw in the ratings on ABC.
Elsewhere, NBC’s sophomore “Blindspot” (#3: 3.0/ 5) scored its best overnight household rating since Feb. 8, which certainly could bode well for a renewal. And lead-out “Law & Order: SVU,” which at this point is poised to outlast 20-season parent “Law & Order,” earned its best overnight rating since Feb. 22, with a 3.0/ 5.
The CW capped off the night with the pairing of dramas “Arrow” (#5: 1.1/ 2) and “The 100” (#5: 0.6/ 1).
