With a desire for an interesting journey to unwind amidst the beautiful landscapes of Vietnam, after much searching and consideration, my trip was worth the time and money. What made my trip memorable was the Mon Cheri cruise in Halong Bay, which provided me with an incredible experience that exceeded my expectations.
A lot of “research”
My bestie and I decided to go on a 10-day trip in Vietnam and spent 1 or 2 nights at Halong Bay. Before embarking on this journey, we planned everything for a year in advance, from searching on groups like Reddit, Tripadvisor, Travelfish, bloggers, etc., to gathering information from relatives who had been to Halong. At first, it was daunting and challenging for us to do the research for this trip because there were too many options with varying prices and a significant difference in quality. Meanwhile, I didn’t want to miss out on any good service, but also couldn’t afford overpriced options.
Fortunately, we tried to contact some agencies and realized that booking through them would offer a better price than booking on our own. Amazingly Satisfied Experience with Mon Cheri
One night on Mon Cheri left me with many great impressions, from the accommodations, food, and service, to the excursion.
A huge ship and spacious cabin
Like my imagination, the exterior of the ship didn’t look very new or special; however, the interior space was quite large with a luxurious design that combined a classic European and rustic Vietnamese vibe, creating a sense of comfort and ease.
We chose the Elegance Suite on the 3rd floor, which was a spacious room measuring 35m2. The room was clean and elegant, with no unnecessary details—minimalist yet luxurious. What we loved about it was the private balcony that received good natural light. The large bathroom also had a beautiful view; however, it was a bit of a pity because with the bathroom window facing the bay, it would have been perfect if there had been a bathtub as well.
Well-done itinerary
The journey through Halong Bay was on point, there was nothing to regret! In just 2 days and 1 night, we experienced everything we had planned to try in Halong Bay: swimming, kayaking, and visiting caves. Especially, the feeling of drifting on the boat through the mysterious caves, with the emerald clear water among the magnificent limestone mountains, is still etched in my mind. If I had more time, I would definitely book a 3-day itinerary to have more time to explore Cat Ba Island, also a wonderful destination nearby Halong Bay that was included in the cruise tour.
Activities on the ship were not boring either. While my best friend woke up early to join the morning Tai Chi class, I spent some time swimming in the fairly large pool on board. The water was a bit cold in the early morning, but it was very refreshing and pleasant. The cooking class in the previous evening was also quite interesting. The class was taught by a professional chef with quick and easy instructions, suitable for people like me and my friend who don’t have a talent for cooking.
Simple but easy-eating foods
The food is quite simple yet very complete and diverse, offering both Asian and European dishes. This provides a fairly comprehensive culinary experience for visitors. In particular, the food here was fresh, especially the seafood, which was rich, moist, and crunchy. The taste of most dishes is quite flavorful and well-seasoned. A minor downside is that the plating is not very visually appealing and the seats in the dining restaurant were arranged a bit close to each other.
Super nice staff
Mon Cheri had a large professional steward crew. They were all very friendly and attentive, always eager to assist customers. Notably, the crew members here can speak English pretty well. When welcoming tourists from different countries, the cruise manager here gave a clear introduction and instructions in English.
Although we were a bit skeptical before the trip about a 5-star service being offered at such a good price, the actual experience on the Mon Cheri cruise was even more amazing than we expected. With a fantastic initiation in Halong Bay, we finally created more enjoyable memories at the next destinations in Vietnam for the rest of the trip.
