Monday Final Nationals: ABC Earns 11-Year Monday-High in Adults 18-49 with Cavaliers-Warriors NBA Finals Game 5

It was all about ABC on Monday night. In adults 18-49 (6.2 rating/24 share from 8-11 p.m.), the network scored its highest-rated Monday in 11 years – since the 2-hour second season finale of “Grey’s Anatomy” on May 15, 2006.

Monday’s “2017 NBA Finals” Game 5 broadcast on ABC generated a total live audience of 25.003 million average viewers, making it the most-watched Game 5 since June 12, 1998 (Utah-Chicago on NBC: 30.6 million). It peaked with 29.525 million viewers at 11:30 p.m. ET.

It was up 20 percent from 20.908 million for Game 5 in 2016 (June 13, 2016). 24.466 million viewers tuned in on ABC-TV along with 537,000 viewers via streaming.

In the San Francisco-Oakland market, the Game 5 broadcast delivered a 39.6 metered market rating and in the Cleveland market it generated a 37.1 rating. The other top local markets include: Columbus (23.3); Sacramento (21.2); Atlanta (21.0); Miami (20.6); Memphis (20.1); Los Angeles (19.1); Chicago (18.6); Richmond (17.7).

The five-game series averaged a total live audience (television plus streaming) of 20.84 million viewers, up 1 percent from 20.578 million viewers for the 2016 seven-game series. For the third consecutive year, Warriors-Cavaliers delivered the best NBA Finals viewer average since the average of 29.04 million who watched NBC’s 6-game 1998 NBA Finals (Chicago-Utah; Michael Jordan’s final championship of his playing career).

On television, the series averaged 20,406,000 plus an average minute streaming audience of 434,000 viewers.
