NBC Soars on Tuesday

Ratings Breakdown:
NBC continues to soar on Tuesday, beating the competition combined in the household overnights with its pairing of “America’s Got Talent” (#1: for the night – 8.2 rating/14 share from 8-10 p.m.) and “World of Dance” (5.5/10 at 10 p.m.).

Comparably, “America’s Got Talent” rose by 15 percent from the 7.1/12 on the year-ago evening, which is unprecedented for a series in season 12. And “World of Dance” was 62 percent above year-ago time period occupant “Maya & Marty” (3.4/ 6 on 6/14/16). “World of Dance” also outdelivered competing “48 Hours: NCIS” on CBS (#2: 2.9/ 5) and repeats of “American Housewife” (#3: 1.5/ 3) and “Fresh Off the Boat” (#3: 1.2/ 2) on ABC combined by 29 percent. “World of Dance,” needless to say, could be the biggest new hit series this summer.

Over at ABC, recent itcom entry “Downward Dog” dipped to a series-low 2.4/ 4 (#3) in the 8 p.m. half-hour, which was eight percent below the 2.6/ 5 one week earlier. Next were encore telecasts of “The Middle” (#3: 1.6/ 3) and two episodes of ‘black-ish” (#3: avg. 1.5/ 3 from 9-10 p.m.). This fall, the ABC Tuesday 8-10 p.m. comedy rotation is “The Middle,” “Fresh Off the Boat,” ‘black-ish” and new entry “The Mayor” into new drama “The Gospel of Kevin.” My crystal ball tells me “The Gospel of Kevin” will face an uphill battle opposite “NCIS: New Orleans” on CBS and “Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Brothers” on NBC.

Elsewhere, CBS populated this second Tuesday in June with repeats of “NCIS” (#2: 4.3/ 8) and “Bull” (#2: 3.5/ 6) into a 2.9/ 5 (#2) for aforementioned “48 Hours: NCIS” at 10 p.m. Fox aired repeats of “Lethal Weapon” (#4: 1.3/ 2) and sitcoms “The Mick” (#4: 0.9/ 2) and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (#4: 0.8/ 1). And The CW capped of the evening with an encore telecast of “The Flash” (#5: 0.6/ 1) into an also 0.6/ 1 for an original installment of “iZombie” at 9 p.m.
