Positive Return for ‘Big Brother’ on CBS

What follows are the metered market (overnight) results in households by network and by half-hour for Wednesday, June 28, 2017:

-Ratings Breakdown:
Two-hours of CBS summer mainstay “Big Brother” opened season 19 on a positive note, with a 3.6 rating/7 share in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, this ranked first in the 9 p.m. hour, while trailing “Little Big Shots: Forever Young” on NBC (#1: 4.2/ 8) by 14 percent in the 8 p.m. hour. It was also just five percent below the 3.8/ 7 for the 8-9 p.m. year-ago telecast, which translated into 6.13 million viewers and a 1.9 rating/8 share, based on the Live + Same Day data from Nielsen.

In other words, “Big Brother” is back for another successful summer season.

Leading out of “Big Brother” was a repeat of “Criminal Minds” on CBS at a 2.3/ 4 (#1) at 10 p.m., which bested competing “To Tell the Truth” on ABC (#2: 2.1/ 4) and an encore telecast of “This Is Us” on NBC (#3: 1.3/ 2) by 10 percent and 77 percent, respectively.

In the 9 p.m. hour on NBC were two episodes (original and repeat) of “The Carmichael Show” at a 1.7/ 3 at 9 p.m. and a 1.6/ 3 at 9:30 p.m. Both episodes finished third in the time period.

Elsewhere, recent Fox entry “The F World with Gordon Ramsay” (#4: 1.5/ 3 at 9 p.m.) slipped by 37 percent from the third-place 2.4/ 5 for lead-in “Masterchef” at 8 p.m. Maybe it is time Fox gave Gordon Ramsay a rest. ABC populated the 8-10 p.m. block with encore telecasts of “The Goldbergs” (#4: 1.8/ 4), “Speechless” (#4: 1.3/ 2), “Modern Family” (#3: 1.7/ 3) and “American Housewife” (#3: 1.6/ 3). Emmy voters should make sure to have the name Katy Mixon on the ballot for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. And The CW featured repeats of “The Flash” and “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow,” each at a 0.5/ 1 in the household overnights.

Yes, I know…crunching the overnights in the summer is not all that interesting!
