Ratings Breakdown:
Led by a Wednesday 8-9 p.m. edition of “The Voice,” it was a clean household overnight sweep for NBC. “The Voice” (#1 for the night 5.2 rating/9 share) bested competing “Survivor” on CBS (#2: 4.6/ 8) by 13 percent.
In season (or series finale) news, “Criminal Minds” wrapped up season 13 on CBS with a second-place 3.5/ 7 in the household overnights at 10 p.m. Comparably, that trailed competing “Chicago PD” on NBC (#1: 4.3/ 8) by 19 percent and it could very well be the final regularly scheduled episode. A total of 17 series, to-date, have been renewed on CBS and “Criminal Minds” is not one of them…yet.
On ABC, recently introduced sitcom “Alex, Inc.” remains stalled at the gate, with a fourth-place 2.0/ 3 at 8 p.m. (out of a 2.5/ 4 for a repeat of “The Goldbergs” at 8 p.m.). At 10 p.m., sophomore ABC drama “Designated Survivor” finished a typically distant No. 3 with a 2.5/ 5. The saving grace, however, for “Designated Survivor” is the positive DVR usage.
In season-premiere news was the final season of CW drama “The Originals” at a modest 0.7/ 1 at 9 p.m. (out of a 0.8/ 1 for “Riverdale” at 8 p.m.).
Elsewhere, Fox had nothing unusual to report with its pairing of dramas “Empire” (#3: 4.2/ 7 at 8 p.m.) and “Star” (#3: 3.1/ 5 at 9 p.m.), which should have no trouble earning a third season renewal. And veteran “Law & Order: SVU” on NBC won the 9 p.m. hour with a 4.3/ 7, which was 16 percent above an earlier edition of “Criminal Minds” on CBS (3.7/ 6).
