Thursday Overnights: CBS Leads; NBC’s ‘Marlon’ Concludes on a Soft Note

Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led this second Thursday in July in the household overnights, with the live “Big Brother” eviction show (#1: 3.6 rating/7 share) all but guaranteeing the Eye net victory for the night in adults 18-49 and all the key demo groups. If there is a lesson to be learned from “Big Brother” last night it is never to be too aggressive that early in the season.

There were two season finales on NBC: “Little Big Shots” (#2: 3.7/ 7 at 8 p.m.) and sophomore comedy “Marlon” (#4: 1.5/ 3 at 9:30 p.m.), which was likely the series-ender. The first of two episodes of “Marlon” scored a 1.9/ 3 in households in the 9 p.m. half-hour, which was 17 percent below “The Carmichael Show” on the year-ago evening (2.3/ 4 on 7/12/17).

Also original last night was ABC’s combination of game shows “The Gong Show” (#3t: 2.0/ 4 at 8 p.m.) and “The Match Game” (#2t: 2.4/ 4 at 9 p.m.), and recently introduced drama “Take Two” (#2t: 2.0/ 4 at 10 p.m.), which could not compete. And Fox featured sophomore singing competition “The Four: Battle For Stardom,” which scored a 2.2/ 4 from 8-10 p.m.
