Fox Rules With Thursday Night Football

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2018

Household Rating/Share
Fox: 6.9/12, CBS: 5.7/10, ABC: 3.6/ 6, NBC: 2.5/ 4, CW: 0.9/ 1

-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:
Fox: +176, CBS: – 7, ABC: -12, CW: -18, NBC: -32

-Ratings Scorecard:
Thursday Night Football (Houston Texans 42, Miami Dolphins 23) led Fox to household overnight victory. The 8:30-10 p.m. portion of the game, which ended at 11:43 p.m. ET (and does not include the results past 10 p.m. and the overall portion on the NFLN), scored a 7.6 rating/13 share in the household overnights. Full game results will be posted later today at programminginsider.com.

In series-premiere news, CW drama “Legacies,” a spin-off of “The Originals,” opened with a modest 0.8/ 1 in households at 9 p.m. While The CW is not known for generating interest in the overnight ratings department, this was 20 percent below tired lead-in “Supernatural” (#5: 1.0/ 2 at 8 p.m.) and 11 percent below year-ago time period occupant “Arrow” (0.9/ 2 on 10/26/17). Let’s see what the results are for the DVR usage and social media interest, which can make all the difference.

CBS’ veteran “The Big Bang Theory” topped the night at a 9.0/15 in the 8 p.m. half-hour, which benefited lead-out prequel “Young Sheldon” (#1, 7.3/12 at 8:30 p.m.). The question, of course, is how “Young Sheldon” will fare next season when “The Big Bang Theory” has officially concluded.

Next on the Eye next was “Mom” at a healthy 5.5/ 9 (#2) in the 9 p.m. half-hour. But lead-out “Murphy Brown,” which is not the attraction the network was hoping for, dipped to a series low 4.5/ 8 (#2) at 9:30 p.m.

At 10 p.m., CBS’ “S.W.A.T.” (#2: 3.8/ 7) topped the three scripted dramas, besting competing “Law & Order: SVU” on NBC (#3: 3.3/ 6) and “How To Get Away With Murder” on ABC (#4: 2.3/ 4) by 15 percent and 65 percent, respectively. But “SVU” deserves a shout-out for building out of freshman sitcom “I Feel Bad” (#4: 1.6/ 3 at 9:30 p.m.) by 106 percent. Chances are NBC will be pulling “I Feel Bad” at any moment.

Elsewhere, it was low-rated Thursday night sitcom business as usual for NBC care of “Superstore” (#4: 2.2/ 4), “The Good Place” (#4: 2.1/ 3), “Will & Grace” (#4: 2.7/ 4) and aforementioned “I Feel Bad” (#4: 1.6/ 3) from 8-10 p.m. And ABC featured ageless “Grey’s Anatomy” (#2: 5.1/ 9 at 8 p.m.) into a 3.5/ 6 for spin-off “Station 19” at 9 p.m. Comparably, “Station 19) was 10 percent below “Scandal” on the year-ago evening.
